Although we have a nature and climate change emergency most wildlife and outdoor adventure tour companies and guidebooks assume that we will fly at least part of the way to our destination. This is contributing further to climate change and accelerating declines in many species. Whilst some companies claim that they are addressing the greenhouse gas emissions from flights by offsetting this is ineffective, as a result of fundamental problems with the approach, let alone practicalities.

As well as being more environmentally sustainable, travelling by train and ferry has many other advantages.
